Hannah Anderson awarded Emerging Artist Grant for 2021
Half Moon Bay, CA: Made on the Coast, a sub committee of the Half Moon Bay Beautification Committee is proud to announce that Hannah Anderson, a local artist, is the winner of the 2021 Emerging Artist Grant.
The Made on the Coast Emerging Artists Program provides financial support to developing or established professionals by funding a project pivotal to the advancement of their careers as artists. The grants are not restricted to un-established artists. However, Made on the Coast does like to promote art that can be enjoyed by the community at large.
Hannah Anderson will use her grant funds to further her education in stained glass artwork and design. She will build and produce a 3ft by 5ft piece of art showcasing the beauty of Half Moon Bay. Hannah hopes to have the art displayed in and around Half Moon Bay for all to see and share. Her website to see her work can be found at www.hannahandersonart.com. She will regularly update the page with her progress on the project until it’s completion by the beginning of October.
Hannah Anderson stated
“I am overjoyed to be receiving this grant from Made on the Coast. This grant will help me achieve my dream of becoming a professional stained-glass artist and will give me the opportunity to give back to the community I grew up in through my creations. “
In addition to Hannah’s award, the Made on the Coast committee awarded a special COVID relief contribution to artist Laura McHugh who is producing quilts for those living in San Mateo County.
Laura McHugh stated:
“Thank you so much for the contribution that will enable me to purchase supplies to help reach out and connect to people in San Mateo County affected by COVID. Whether through the loss of a loved one, or struggling to heal from this disease, the quilt blocks I’m sent by those affected will be assembled into a quilt to commemorate what we have lost this past year.”
Made on the Coast provides an outlet for local artists to participate in the annual Pumpkin Festival. In 2020 the event went virtual and was open to any artist on the coast from Pescadero to Montara. Should the festival not happen again this year, Made on the Coast will continue to provide an outlet for any artist who wishes to participate. Information can be found at www.madeonthecoast.com or on Facebook.

Pumpkin Festival Coastal Artists Announce a 2020 Virtual Festival
Half Moon Bay, CA: Made on the Coast, a local artist subcommittee of the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival, proudly announces its portion of the festival is expanding and going virtual. From October 1 through December 31, 2020 all coastal artists in San Mateo County (from Montara to Pescadero) interested in participating will be featured on the Made on the Coast website for virtual sales. With the support of the Half Moon Bay Beautification Committee, Made on the Coast is able to provide this community inspired virtual program at no cost to the artists. The virtual festival can be found at www.madeonthecoast.com and the Facebook page Made-on-the-Coast.
As the main festival has been cancelled due to COVID, the Half Moon Bay Beautification and Made on the Coast Committees will continue to support the local non-profits and artists by providing an outlet for their creativity and sales, virtually. Over 300,000 people attend the festival each year, which has provided financial support for our local economy, non-profits and artists.
Cameron Palmer, Chairman of the Half Moon Bay Beautification Committee stated "We know fully well the Pumpkin Festival’s critical importance as a fund-raiser for more than 30 participating non-profit groups from the community – that is the essence of the festival. The festival is also a premier showcase event for independent artists, musicians and corporate partners and a major economic boost for the entire coastside so it’s a big blow to those fronts as well.”
With an abundance of artisans living on the coast, there is plenty of items to choose from. Categories include: Painters, photographers, jewelers, digital artists, potters, fiber arts/textiles, food generated from the land and much more. Additionally, numerous artists will provide short videos, zoom fireside chats and interviews to bring their work alive and inspire you.
"Made on the Coast fosters an incredible sense of inspiration among our tight-knit community of local artists. The opportunity to highlight our individual crafts, share ideas, and trade techniques is like no other," said Julia Ginna of Love Lucky Dog. "Going virtual may not replace the electric energy of a live Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival, but we greatly appreciate the exposure and chance to give back to the non-profits that make our coastside so very special. Collectively, we hope to make it a fun, creative experience for all visitors."
Furthermore, Made on the Coast will be opening it’s Grant Application for Local Emerging Artists on November 1st, 2020. The Emerging Artists Program (EAP) provides financial support to developing or established professionals by funding a project pivotal to the advancement of their careers as artists. Pivotal projects may happen at different stages of a career. Therefore, the EAP grants are not restricted to un-established artists. However, MotC does like to promote art that can be enjoyed by the community at large.
