DONALD BALDWIN: Painter
Inspired and energized by the coastal mountains, bluffs and beaches of the Half Moon Bay area of California, I start most of my oil paintings on location. But most of the work is performed afterwards in my studio. I approach each painting as a unique creation, letting the energy of the moment guide me. I seek to convey to the viewer — through the interaction of the composition, the sizes and shapes, the values, the colors, the lines, the texture — the ecstasy I feel about being alive and painting that beautiful view in front of me. I am not able to convey all that I see and feel during the initial outdoor phase of the painting. But once back in the studio, armed with a few photos of the scene, I finish the painting as I internally re-live the original attraction. Most paintings require many layers, usually applied over dry paint. Sometimes I run an orbital sander over works on wood panel to remove or reduce a layer or three. I’m not afraid of big brushes and I’m getting more comfortable with small brushes. Pallet knives often come in handy. Sometimes I never really understand what inspired me about the subject until the very end. Yes, it’s all about the process.
Education:
Don Baldwin was inspired to begin painting when, as a brand new Second Lieutenant in the Air Force, he witnessed the northern California landscape for the first time. Oil painting became a passion that endured through decades of left brain indoor endeavors in the computer world and a brief fling as a lawyer in Pennsylvania. Through studio lessons in Philadelphia and occasional workshops around the country, he developed his own approach to oil painting. That approach continues to unfold.

LEN BANKS: Painter
Bay Area native and coastside resident for nearly 25 years, I am inspired by our coastal beauty. Landscape painting, primarily on location (en Plein Air), is a great joy.
I finally tired of saying, “Someday I want to paint”. For me, taking up the brush is part of my continuing spiritual journey where God is leading me on towards self-awareness, trust in Him, letting go of control, and learning to relax in terms of being ‘black and white’ in my approach to life. I am finally at a place in life where I can do this – it is both a result of becoming who God has planned for me and part of my ongoing journey to becoming who he wants me to be.
The light, the flow and looseness, the messiness coming together to create beauty is the way I have come to see life. Creativity flowing yet not fully in my control reminds me to acknowledge that life is also out of my control. Never meant to be. And yet in the messiness…beauty, light and hope emerge.
Have a favorite location on the coast, I take commissions as well. Please contact me at [email protected] to discuss.

JENNIFER CLARK - Fiber Arts
The intricate kaleidoscopic patterns in my designs are created using butterflies, flowers, and other natural history motifs as my color palette. These images begin as drawings or paintings from photographs that I digitally rearrange using a system of opposition, rotation and repetition
I stumbled upon this design technique many years ago after illustrating a book on butterflies. Following countless hours of intense focus on very detailed drawings, I made collages of the drawings to ‘decompress’. Then, one day with the help of a Xerox copy machine, I began cutting up and reassembling the collages by hand. I put up these very large black and white structures in galleries when I exhibited my book illustrations, and provided ladders (or tables) and colored pencils inviting audience participation. This began before home computers were readily available. Today my designs are created on a computer using Painter and PhotoShop applications.
I have always had a predilection for cutting up and rearranging ‘things’. Patterns come easily to me and I enjoy the meditation evoked in creating them. What starts with a pile of butterflies is transformed into stunning fabric designs -to my endless surprise and delight! Chaos, it does seem, breeds order.
Most of my designs are too complex for hand-painting or block printing. They are printed using a dye-sublimation process on very large presses that work much like your home inkjet printer. After printing the fabric is heat-treated to set the dyes. Each type of fabric absorbs the dyes differently. Some fabrics produce sharp, crisp and vibrant designs, while others produce more muted colors.
Designs are printed on a variety of fabrics including silk chiffon, silk charmeuse, silk crepe de chine, silk habotai, linen, rayon, and cotton. Designs may be custom ordered for wedding themes and other special occasions.

REBECCA ELLIS: Mixed Media
It is good to do that which uses the talents you are given. If doing a particular something comes easily to you, makes you smile inside, and you lose track of time in the midst of it, then that may be what you are called to do. Art is that way for me. I’ve enjoyed creating images all of my life. My job as an artist is to take the time to see and appreciate the glory of God’s world, to create thought provoking art and beauty by study and hands-on experiences, then to share the art with as many people as possible.
Thank you for stopping to view these paintings. I hope you find one that pleases you enough to purchase it. If you are interested in purchasing one of my paintings, please know that I happily accept payment plans. See more of my work at Half Moon Bay Coffee Company and at Coastal Arts League Gallery, both located on Main Street in Half Moon Bay by the old bridge.

JO FRY - Fierce Siren Studios: Jewelry and mixed media
For my art pieces I incorporate different types of paint and techniques within each work, to create the unique look I want. This can include spray paint, acrylic, UV reactive paint, glitter paint, glitter, and , always, sea glass. I can vouch for each piece of glass that I use, as it is personally found on my
home beach in Half Moon Bay.
In addition to being the artist, I am an admitted science and math geek. For each animal that I paint I do research and an educational write-up with a few fun facts.
My sea glass hunts always include updating my log – I track counts by month, day, color, beach, tide and hunt time. I have assembled a two-year data set - I can you the rarity % of each color. There are customers at shows that love looking at my “Big Seaglass Data” !

STACY GRIFFITH - Tye Dye
Stacy has been living on the coast for about 25 years. She lived in Half Moon Bay for 10 years then on a small sail boat located in the harbor on an anchor chain for 10 years. She has now settled in El Granada and loves it. Stacy works out of her home.
She has been doing tye dye for around 4 years. Many of my friends told her she should start a business selling the tye dye outfits. Stacy purchases designer labels and name brand clothing in all styles and hand dye each one. No two are a like. I have 300 items in my inventory from tank tops, T-shirts, long sleeve shirts, dress shirts, pants, shorts, dresses, skirts, jackets, sweatshirts, thermals, and more. Adult sizes from women's X-small to men's 2XL. Stacy also has children's T-shirts from x-small (4) to XL (18-20). There is something for everyone.
E-mail Stacy at [email protected] to set up an appointment to view items or purchase directly.

SHERRI HANNA: Painter
We are all called to create. I seek to make visible the inner landscape: images that convey emotions and experiences. I work abstractly, hoping to draw you into my paintings to make your own discoveries of the joy of being alive. Sometimes I start with a specific image or intention; other times. I start by laying down color and responding to the images that are created subconsciously. My palette is inspired by sky and sea: memories of dawn breaking over pools I’ve trained in, palm trees before a thunderstorm, sunsets in coastal California, the ever-changing colors of the ocean as seen from the shore and underwater. In the end, I paint because it makes me happy. Stepping into the flow of the creative process, I lose sense of time and self, ending each session renewed and content.

BETSY HARMS; Jewelry
I am a California native residing in Half Moon Bay who has been making jewelry since I first discovered the craft in high school. My passion is making natural stone beaded jewelry that has a spiritual meaning and is soothing to those who wear it. I love working with calming colors, but also making dynamic multi-strand pieces. My intention is to make jewelry pieces that are expressive while also being complementary to anyone who wears them.
I have sold my designs at various stores around the Bay Area, and decided to open up an Etsy store with my daughters, OutlawDesignBoutique, in January 2017. Besides the Etsy store, I am currently selling my pieces at the Coastal Art League and The Paper Crane, both located on Main Street in Half Moon Bay. I also participate in the annual Open Studios on the coast, Made on the Coast, and various pop-ups around town!

Noelle Lane - Tenzai Designs - Mixed Media
Making mandala inspired art can be meditative, transformative, healing, and a bit addicting. My work is all hand painted in acrylic and sealed so these whimsical pieces may live inside or out at your home. The technique I use has been called “Dotilism” by some. I find it similar to the techniques used by the Pointillists I first discovered as a child. In both styles, small distinct dots of color are applied to create your artwork. While those artists primarily used brushes, I use special dotting tools to create my works. Dotilism also employs dots of varying sizes while Pointillism primarily uses dots of similar sizes only.
As someone with no formal artistic training (I’ve a BA in Biology) who has discovered her inner artist, I find for me the work is all about expression. Letting go of any self-judgment and the need for perfection. Instead, focusing on the process of creation itself and finding the joy in creating something new and just a bit fanciful is what motivates me to continue to learn and grow within my new found craft.

KATHLEEN MARTIN - Photographer
Living in Northern California presents rare and pristine areas of unsurpassed landscape and seascape terrain. I am continually inspired by these landscapes and therefore use photography to document and convey this beauty for others to see.
Many wild and natural landscapes have disappeared due to development. Throughout history, photography has been a medium to help document and educate about natural landscapes globally, communicating the importance of preserving and protecting the natural beauty of these environments.
The ocean and surrounding areas offer a diverse eco system such as the tide pools teaming with sea life, long stretches of sandy beaches and rocky shores and fishing villages often enshrouded in fog. The inland countryside with charming small towns surrounded by vineyards and the dramatic Sierra Nevada mountains with the treasured Lake Tahoe.
These eco systems within the ocean and its surrounding areas are delicate and fragile they require constant vigilance to help maintain and protect their resources. I hope through photography we can help to preserve and communicate its unique timelessness and importance to the world.

BARBARA MASEK - Photography
My photography is driven by my desire to capture the subject with creativity and intent! Is the viewer reacting and feeling something when viewing my images that creates interest and emotion? I want to create an expected outcome that is really my vision the moment I photographed that subject. My personal challenge is to create the most striking photography for myself on a personal level, then be able to share that vision. A personal concern is to be technical excellent.
I offer fine art photography, as well as digital art, that originates from a photographic image. It’s more of an artistic interpretation. Themed Collections cover core subjects of my interests and can be viewed in my Online Shop. I prefer vibrant color, natural and graphic elements, as long as I show the subject in the best light.
I feel fortunate to be considered a local Coast-side resident for the last 37 years! I enjoy the incredible natural environment, and ever-changing beauty of the coast we live in and enjoy our local community for so many reasons, that has enriched my life over the years.
A famous quote by Imogen Cunningham fits me. “Which of my photographs is my favorite? The one I am going to take tomorrow!”
For the last decade, Barbara Masek Photography has been a commercial business, working with clients in head & portrait, event, and other promotional assignments. During the past year, I opened an online shop with prints & merchandise offered. There is always more to come with the pursuit of photography.
Everything you see in this online gallery can be directly purchased and shipped. It’s a simple process but It would be a great pleasure to personally help guide you through the choices with online tools where you can view the artwork directly on your wall. It’s all pretty fun.
Thanks for viewing my photography.

RAINER NEUMANN - Painter and Pastels
I am currently living in Half Moon Bay, after spending 30 plus years in San Francisco. Started a graphic design business in 1979 and published an arts magazine - “Canticle”. I also published several fiction and poetry books and pastel and watercolor books.
In response to world issues, I let creative solutions (images, poetry and songs) percolate, usually throughout the night, in the hopes that I can make a public contribution. Recent art works include pastels - skies of Kenya, sunsets of Half Moon Bay and coast, Lake Tahoe landscapes - my attempt is to bring out beauty and the transient moments in our lives (usually a haiku is included with my images).
My artistic prevalence is nature inspired images, poetic contributions to our time and seeing potential in the world around me. Current work is a poetry book that includes many of my images “Intersections of Concern” and “A Book of Lyrics”, a continuing exhibit of pastels at the Half Moon Bay Coffee Company and other publications at lulu.com/spotlight/rneumann.

CASSIE OTT - Demilune Boutique - Jewelry
Jewelry, especially earrings, has always been my favorite accessory and way of expressing myself. Most earrings in stores couldn't match my particular style of bold and fun dangle earrings. So, I started crafting my own earrings to match my style, and eventually expanded to creating the boutique Demilune to sell my earrings.
I am a Half Moon Bay local and have lived here for the entirety of my life. I love hiking in the Montara mountains and Purisima Creek to admire the beautiful nature where we live. Living on the coast, I rely on the ocean for tranquility and inspiration. I make a variety of earrings to match any occasion, from elegant to playful. All products are handmade by me in Half Moon Bay, CA.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns! More products for sale can be found at instagram.com/demilunebtq

NANCY QUICKERT - Quickert Ceramics
I felt grounded to the earth early on as a kid - playing in the freshly excavated clay hills of the bay area, carving out our dirt dens in the hillsides, learning to make pots in high school. Then I dabbled in the glaze studio at S.F. State, attended workshops with Maria Martinez, Daniel Rhodes, F. Carlton Ball and Fred Olsen. It all hit home.
In 1973 I planted my potter’s wheel in the living room in Montara, CA, shared a kiln with Ted Groves and Dennis Gallagher, and built a 24 cf updraft kiln in 1981, the kiln I continue to fire. In 1999, after decades of studio work, selling in local galleries, bay area craft fairs and open studios, I also realized the joy of teaching clay to children and adults in local schools and in my “Clay House” studio. 2009 brought me back to the home studio where I continue to work, show and sell locally.
When beginning to make a piece of ceramics we simply begin with the clay in our hands, which is immediately grounding and inspirational. As we progress, we consider the intended use of the piece, the type of clay to suit that use, the form, mass, inside and outside, the user’s comfort, the textures, colors, and overall character of the piece. The quality of the materials and the skill of the potter can work together to make a good pot, but sometimes a little magic happens while decorating or firing, which reveals the soul of the clay and maybe of the maker. That, again, grounds us to the earth.

RANDALL REID - Ceramics
My work is created on the Potter's wheel, and fired in both electric and gas kilns. I make the glazes used on my work. The glazes are food safe and very durable. The decoration on the surfaces reflects the beautify that I am surrounded by.
I have been a potter on the coast since 1978. I have shown my work in many festivals including the Annual Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival four times, as well as the Made on the Coast since the beginning of the Local's Block began.
My process: I create work on the potter's wheel and decorate the pots with slips, draing and glazes. The boots are fired in two ways, on is a stoneware temperature (2200) for food safe items, and the other is in the process known as Raku.

My process: I create work on the potter's wheel and decorate the pots with slips, draing and glazes. The boots are fired in two ways, on is a stoneware temperature (2200) for food safe items, and the other is in the process known as Raku.
PATT SHELDON - Weaving, & Jewelry
Vivid colors and texture drive my work as a textile and jewelry artist. I consider myself eclectic - I knit, weave, felt, dye, design and make jewelry. I create unusual pieces and love the artistic process. Weaving allows me to be creative with color, design, and textures that other people might not expect. I weave shawls, scarves, ponchos or wraps and free-form pieces, knit small shawls and scarves, sometimes hand-dyed and felt and embellish wrist cuffs and hats. I have also dyed fabric and finished pieces for a Los Angeles fashion designer. I love how random and un-predictive the process is.

ELLEN SILVA - Painter
Expression through art has been a consistent theme through Ellen’s life. She began painting as soon as she could hold a brush (age 3). Her first works were “impressionistic” watercolors (Popeye followed by the Pony Express). She was influenced by poster artist Peter Max, and album cover artists of the 1960’s known for their bright colors and swirling psychedelic graphics. She was and (Vincent Van Gogh's impressionistic style) and Toulouse-Lautrec's poster art. In college she focused on composite layout, typography, and earned a bachelors degree in Design/Illustration from San Jose State University.
Self employed since 1980, her graphic design/website clients have included many wineries, Joan Baez, Stanford Medical Center, City of San Mateo, San Mateo Public Library, San Francisco & Palo Alto Chamber Orchestras and San Carlos Art & Wine Festival. After a mural tour in San Francisco's Mission District in 1996, Ellen began volunteering on mural projects with Precita Eyes Mural Center. Within a year she was directing mural projects in elementary & middle schools, working from Marin to South Peninsula, East Bay and San Mateo coastside. One highlight was a joint commission with her mentor, Susan Cervantes from
Precita Eyes Mural Center, designing and painting 3 large scale Dante murals at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA. Another highlight was a group mural project at SF’s MOMA. Ellen has directed over 150 school mural projects, and has also received many residential, commercial and therapeutic community mural commissions.
In 2010, Ellen joined the Colony of Coastside Artists and began creating nature-inspired art for show and sale. Ellen paints “Fence Chunks” (acrylic on recycled fence boards), and also paints on canvas and other surfaces.

MARIE SUSA - Photography
My love for photography began when my mother gave me my first "real" camera, a 35mm Canon AV-1, for my high school graduation. This wonderful gift propelled me into the serious start to my nature photography. I have been fascinated with creating images ever since. I bought a few more lenses, took photography classes at the local junior college, and worked in the darkroom learning film developing. I graduated from San Jose State with a degree in Business Finance. Growing up in Cupertino, California, I would venture out to photograph the natural beauty of rural Cupertino and Santa Clara County. Every free minute I had, I would take my camera, lenses, and tripod to the orchards, foothills, and surrounding areas.
My passion is nature photography and long exposure photography. I also specialize in macro wildflower photography. I try to convey the beauty in nature as I see it through my lens. My creative vision is to share nature as it truly exists. Therefore, I will only crop or adjust the exposure of the image, but will not change colors or digitally manipulate the image to something that is not an accurate representation of the original image. My images are single images. I do not photo stack images or merge multiple images into a single image.
I am blessed to now live in beautiful Half Moon Bay, California where I am surrounded by the boundless beauty of the coast and rural farmland. My husband and I live on our ranch with our Great Pyrenees dog, Lucy, and our tuxedo cat, Milton. We raised two beautiful and successful daughters who have pursued careers in science.

SKY WILLIAMS (AKA Sky) - Painter
Raised in NYC, Ilise Williams (AKA Sky) experienced all the culture it had to offer. New York City was a gritty place to grow up in the eighties and no doubt influenced Skys' rebellious nature. It wasn’t until later in life, when she re-located to California in the early 90’s, that she realized how important being outdoors was to her and how her new environment enabled her to flourish. Many trips to the Sierras honed her eye in photography, color, shapes and textures. Today many of her paintings are a direct reflection of the juxtaposition between the natural beauty of California and her urban roots of graffiti and billboards on the subways and streets of NYC. Sky’s work is often intuitive, reflected by color and movement. Sometimes it’s just about the paint. One Stroke or 50, she lets' her intuition guide her.
Sky is a graduate from The State University College at Buffalo, NY with a B.A. Degree in Television Production. She also Continued studies in Fine Art and Graphic Design at The School of Visual Arts in New York City and Painting at The Art Studio NY.
